Seat Foam Replacement

After 23 years of being sat on, the foam in our seats has become so soft it wasn't comfortable to sit for more than five or ten minutes. Soon you'd feel the cushion compress and be sitting on the wood.

I had priced foam replacements with Foam Factory, the cheapest place I found. That was a couple years ago, and to have all our seat foam cut and delivered ran just over $200. Ouch

One evening Donna was looking through the Pop Up Owners FaceBook Group and saw an ad where someone was giving away their king mattress foam. They were close by, we contacted them and picked up the foam that weekend. Basically a brand new piece that was pretty firm.

When we opened the camper for this year the first thing I did was pull all the cushions and remove the foam inner piece. Then I layed the king foam out on saw horses with 2x4's under for support. I layed all the old foam pieces out on the king mattress, figuring out sizes. Fortunately they all fit with just a small part left. One by one I marked them with a sharpie then cut them with an electric knife. An electric knife cuts through foam very easily.

The hardest part was getting the foam back into the cushion covers. It was a two person job to squish, bend and maneuver the foam back inside and zip the cover up. But now sitting on the seat was so much more comfortable, no bottoming out in a few minutes. The g-son who usually sleeps on the gaucho layed down on the new cushions and went "Aaaahhhhh."
